Why Another Kickstand?

There are already four kickstands on the market for the Segway. With such a small market in the first place why would any company engineer a new stand? Well the answer is simple, no one else has a kickstand that "works".

The SEGsuperstand is machined of stainless steel and aluminum. There are three moving parts, the front stand, the connection arm, and the foot pedal. Pressing down on the foot pedal at the rear of your segway pushes on the spring loaded connection arm. This arm in turn deploys the kickstand at the front of the Segway. With your foot depressed and the stand extended you rock your Segway forward until the stand hits the ground. The segway will remain leaning forward against the stand in off, standby, and alarm mode.

When you are ready to head out, just pull your segway toward you, the stand snaps back underneath the Segway.

Preparation

  • The setscrews that come with the kit need be inserted into the standoffs just the right amount. This is accomplished as follows:
  1. Insert the setscrew into the stand off
  2. On the other end of the standoff insert the cap screw until it bottoms out. Do not over-tighten
  3. Using an 8mm wrench to hold the standoff and a 2.5mm Allen wrench insert the setscrew into the standoff until it presses against the cap screw. Do not over-thighten

  • Remove the front and back screws holding the plastic trim cover in place. This cover contains the reflective stripe, red on the back, white on the front.
  • Put the foam in place on the bottom of the spacer located between the transmission and the base. I peeled back the tape about an inch and put the foam in place, then slowly worked the backing off as I applied the foam.
  • Install the front and rear standoffs that were prepared above. After the standoff is tightened, remove the capscrew from each of the standoffs. I held the standoff in position by using an open-ended wrench.
  • Install the kickstand assembly front first. Insert the stainless steel capscrew though the kickstand and onto the standoff.
  • Push hard on the kickstand, pushing it into the foam this will allow you to insert the capscrew into the rear of the kickstand.

The stand works very well on grass and concrete. I look forward to testing it on more surfaces in the coming days.
